Compos Mentis: 15 Musicians To Get Community-Funded One-To-One Mental Health Support
9 June 2026
Over the last 2 years, Goa-based creative agency Interbeing has been hosting people together at Vaayu Kula in Mandrem for 'Big Sound Lie Around', an ambient event series where audiences gather to experience live sets as the sun sets over the sea nearby. The sessions, which have featured artists including Sunju Hargun, Chhabb, Dualist Inquiry, Kiss Nuka, Kohra, Monophonik and Avril aka Chutney Mary, operated on a pay-what-you-can basis, with musicians donating their time and all proceeds directed towards a future community initiative.
That initiative has now been announced as 'Compos Mentis', a collaboration between Interbeing and Sangath Goa that will provide 15 Indian musicians with 5 fully funded one-on-one sessions with trained mental health professionals.
The programme is aimed at musicians navigating challenges common to creative careers, including financial precarity, burnout, social isolation and the pressures of freelance work. Priority will be given to full-time musicians from low-income and marginalised backgrounds, with selections based on need, access to alternative support and readiness to engage rather than artistic profile or achievement. Participating clinicians will be oriented towards the specific realities of creative work, including nightlife culture, audience-facing careers and financial instability.
Musicians can apply through an online form here by June 25. Those unable to be accommodated within the current cohort will be placed on a waitlist and directed towards other low-cost or free mental health resources.
Alongside the launch of 'Compos Mentis', Interbeing will also begin releasing recordings from previous editions of Big Sound Lie Around via the Lie Around Archive on SoundCloud. The archive launches with a set by Sunju Hargun and Chhabb recorded in January 2025, with further releases scheduled monthly through December 2026.
