Sijya Releases Remix EP Of 'Leather & Brass' Featuring Sneha Khanwalkar, Rachika Nayar, Jlin & More

23 October 2026

In 2025, Sijya released her sophomore EP 'Leather & Brass' via the prominent Bjork-associated label One Little Independent. A year later, the New Delhi composer, producer and visual artist has expanded the record's universe with a set of remixes released as 'Leather & Brass [Retrofitted]'.

The all-female 7-track release features some high-profile contributors like respected film composer Sneha Khanwalker (famous for her work across 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'MTV Sound Trippin'), who lets her leftfield instincts come through as she combines melodies from disparate sound sources within the heavy percussion hits and ambient voice passages of Sijya's 'Safe'. American ambient composer Rachika Nayar loops pitched-up segments of 'Do I Know' and echoes them alongside her pristine chimes to create a ticking-tocking, lush bed that fits her wider discography.

Alongside the edit of 'Why do you fight me' by the American electro-pop duo The Blow, which takes the original composition's engulfing quality and uses it as a contrast to the sparse spoken-word composition they create, the edit of 'Tabla' by ex-Pulitzer Prize for Music finalist Jlin is where the remix goes the farthest from the source material – breaking the rhythm of the songwriting to fit disjointed, breakneck, jarring drums.

'Turbine', Sijya's follow-up single from earlier this year, also appears on the remix EP with an edit from OHYUNG. Just like Berlin-based Ziúr does for 'Rust', it amplifies the leftfield undercurrents of the original compositions. Danish-Chilean artist Molina strikes the balance best as she takes the placating chords and vocal performance of 'I only want to crash' and combines it with steady but unique rhythmic layers to create a dynamic journey, reminiscent of the likes of Boards of Canada.

The EP will be presented by boxout.fm with a listening session at Gully Labs, New Delhi on October 24, also featuring Hiranya and thegreybox for DJ sets.
