Femme Music Releases 2nd All-Female Singer-Songwriter Compilation Via Nyima Records

12 October 2026

Nearly a year ago, Femme Music launched its label arm with Nyima Records as one of its sub-imprints. Their effort to increase the representation of women in music and highlight the talent to be tapped within it continues with Nyima Records and its 2nd compilation, 'Nyima, Vol. 2'

The 11-track compilation was created via an open call for applications and sees the label expand beyond English as the lyrical language. “There are so many incredible female artists across India and South Asia, and the wider we are willing to go with language, the more talent, fresh voices we have access to,” shares label co-founder and musician Sanoli Chowdhury.

With the label's bend towards singer-songwriters, there are ample offerings where voice over plucked guitars take centre stage, like 'Broken Soul' by Soumya Jha, and two iterations of jazz and cabaret-style arrangements with Sangeeta Mardur's love-lost storytelling on 'In Life' and 'Wholly Mine' by Nandini Jha. Our favourite moments are when the meanderings find a charming melody, like on 'worn hats' by Disha, or an expressive catchy chorus like in 'Back and Forth' by ivy sood.

The variety of language isn't just limited to the lyrics themselves, but the impact of the chosen vernacular on the musicality is clear to see through the scuttling consonants of the Tamil opener 'Theera Kadal' by Shruthy Parasarathy and the lilting phrases of the Hindi number 'Uljha Jia' by Priyanka Shine.
