Skulk Introduces Her Sophomore Art-Pop Album 'Skin' With A Psychedelic Rock-Influenced Title Track

28 October 2025

After sporadically offering off-kilter art-pop work for over half a decade, Katyayini Gargi aka Skulk joins the leftfield platform and label ONNO Collective for her sophomore album 'Skin', which she introduces with the title track as the lead single.

The Goa-based visual artist and musician polishes up her production on the track, which builds over a repeating bassline and the drones of resonant reversed guitars – very reminiscent of The Beatles' 'Tomorrow Never Knows' – but then carries Skulk's zany synth decorations. Even the songwriting matures on the track, with the refrain like "I am my mother // She's sensitive within // I am my father // He's developed thick skin" outlining what kind of upbringing she comes from and the kind of complementary contradiction she has become with four simple lines.

In contrast, the singing still remains raw and loose in both performance and how it's mixed in. With everything else tightened up, that quality sticks out even more. But that feels more intentional than ever before. Skulk doesn't try to hide it behind layers, but seems to choose it as the aesthetic of her music. To anyone who can accept that, they might find it to be what lends the charm to her style. At least, it represents the imperfection that the album and the title track accept and discuss.
