Aarifah Reflects "Uncertainty With A Pinch Of Hope" On Soft Pop-Rock Single 'Anyway'

In the beginning, 'Anyway' is a straightforward mix of a songwriter reflecting upon and telling the story of past memories over piano chords. A minute in, the central voice soars as layers of drums, bass, guitars and strings carry it high – at a moment when, in the process of reflecting, our songwriter i.e. Mumbai/Pune-based Aarifah Rebello finds an innate capacity for love and happiness as testified by the past.

“I wanted to produce a track that represents uncertainty with a pinch of hope,” Aarifah tells us while sharing her upcoming single 'Anyway' exclusively via Wild City ahead of release. “The helplessness of searching for a moment of passion, wondering what the future looks like, feeling like something/one was the best thing in the world and then it all crashes down, only to make you realise there’s more in store for you. So much more."

A musical polymath, Rebello has juggled a myriad of artistic roles whether as a solo artist or often through collaborations, with the latest being the group Long Distances as well as her Hindi debut with Kanishk Seth's 'Jahaan Pe Dil Hain'. On 'Anyway', however, the focus completely shifts to her songwriting as the minimal arrangements of the opening verse beckon you to focus on the storytelling before the arrangements by co-producer Zain Calcuttawala give the change in the narrative the grandiosity of late 90s or early 2000s' pop-rock.
