After some breakout singles earlier this decade that steadily led him to play the main stage at Lollapalooza India 2026, Aryaman Singh aka sunflower tape machine, has finally released his debut album, 'I LIKE NOISE. MATTER OF FACT, I LOVE IT.'

While his earlier work featured chiming synths and guitars, and reverb-drenched vocals to give his saccharine melodies a dreampop quality, the new 8-track release sees the Chennai artist abandon it to embrace a love for noise, proclaiming it in the title itself.

"I think we as an industry take noise for granted. For the longest time, my art ended up sounding so sterile and insincere because I’d try to abide by “industry standards," says Aryaman. That doesn't mean the album fully changes genre. There is one puristic noise work with 'A LOVE LETTER TO NOISE', an interlude in the 8-track run, and an outright rejection of expectations with tracks like 'I DON'T WANT TO WRITE ANOTHER LOVE SONG', but the singer-songwriter's penchant for upbeat melodies continues to take centre stage.

It just now comes backed by guitars that are distorting into walls of sizzling energy rather than shimmering like they used to, and even the still-present backbeat is crushed under its own energy. It's a befitting musical backing for the themes of angst, conflict and the gusto to rise above that the lyrics deal with. The result might alienate a good few cursory fans who preferred the easier palette of sunflower tape machine's earlier work, but those who stay will find something that is undoubtedly deeper, more authentic and teeming with energy.
