EchoFloat Returns With His First Release In 5 Years With EP 'Pounded Square'

2 July 2025

Jeff Nelson aka EchoFloat just marked his return with the EP 'Pounded Square', his first release as a music producer since 2020's 'Saturated Situation' and subsequent compilation contributions.

Compared to the EchoFloat productions that regularly dotted the latter half of the last decade, the new 9-track EP dials down the abstract nature as the Mumbai-based electronic music producer and visual artist turns to club sounds and musical structures.

The melodic weight of the compositions largely rests on the basslines throughout the EP, providing a graspable anchor as textures shift and drum parts hop across familiar rhythms from across sub-genres of dance music, fragmenting them and stitching them back to create angular shifts. Momentarily, ambient beds from synth tones (like on the opener) or sampled field recordings (like on the title track) keep things fresh by providing relief from the rhythmic intensity, which on other occasions comes through shifts to half-time beats.

The highlight of the work still comes when EchoFloat reverts to more off-kilter musicality on 'Holograma', taking cues from hip-hop and then adding an electronic swagger that seems to replace the rapper with machine tones that seem to sing a cybernetic song.
