Indrani Offers Pop With An Indie Rock Attitude On 'Even If You Beat Me'
28 October 2026
Stepping beyond her role as the keyboard player and singer with her group Ladyship, with which she has explored the limited live music circuit of the capital city, New Delhi's Indrani has just released her debut EP 'Even If You Beat Me'.
Over 6 tracks, the singer-songwriter touches upon things from situations in romantic relationships and her own growth to feelings about the world and politics in the age of AI. With instances like 'Money' singing about an inconsiderate, money-minded partner, Indrani is clearly honest, personal, and, especially, specific. However, it is when she delivers that pointed penmanship as verses leading up to a pop chorus that the lyrical diary becomes clever songwriting. On 'Not Today', she describes another difficult conversation coming in a breaking relationship which she dismisses and pushes aside to lead into an irreverent refrain: "Not today, baby please, / Can we find something else to do? / Like / Make my living room a bar / Say baby baby you’re a star / You’re holding my heart."
It's also where she fully leans into EP's indie-rock palette – something that works every time she does it, including 'Superhero', which is bang in the middle of the EP's softer second half, and the single 'Worm' which is mostly upheld by the charm of her vocal performance.
