Dolorblind Makes A Case For Leftfield Electronica With 'I Loved The Sun'
23 April 2025
Patna-rooted producer Rohan Sinha aka Dolorblind just released 'I Loved The Sun', his first solo release in 3 years.
Composed by the now Bangalore-based artist during his time living in New Delhi winter, the song alludes to the capital city's smog-drenched atmosphere not just through its title but also its dense textures.
"This song is about embracing the uncertainty of what lies ahead, only to realise you've grown used to the weight of the unknown," Rohan explains. "It's about standing tall even when everything around you feels doomed. The sun is long gone, and somehow, that's okay."
Slowed down and reverberated vocal samples evoke a sense of ghostly memories amidst sudden bursts of dissonant textures punctuating the cinematic ambient beds before the dissonance itself begins to engulf. The combination is a mix of the serene and claustrophobic, which hides in its midst lamenting melodies.
Dolorblind moves away from his characteristic pounding drums (though they still remain aggressive in their rhythmic outbursts) to rely more on textures to achieve the same sensorially whelming effect. Elements and motifs that would be disjointed on their own come together to create a journey that successfully evokes a state of hope for the future, present-rooted dystopia and past memories.
