Purple Cassette's New Single 'Waiting on Nothing' Is Clichéd But Fun

With VHS tape aesthetics, a rock quartet performing in an unlikely location (a library) and ending on a laugh and ringing hi-hat, Purple Cassette's latest single 'Waiting on Nothing' isn't without cliches. In fact, it wears its nostalgia for 2000s indie-rock and its influence from nostalgia for the 1990s on its sleeve.

However, the New Delhi-based group takes those cliches and the format of guitar and keyboard hooks punctuating the kind of crooning clearly inspired by the likes of The Strokes, keeps the structure just a tad bit different, and has fun with it. In the process, they find a chorus that you genuinely rejoice upon coming back to.
