Hashbass Invites Spitfire, yungsta, Saniya MQ & More On Debut Mixtape 'House Of Hashbass, Vol. 1'

Delhi-raised Mumbai-based bassist and producer-composer Harshit Misra aka Hashbass just put out his debut mixtape 'House Of Hashbass, Vol. 1' via the label Misfits Inc.

Not a mixtape that's so just in name, the 11-track release sonically distinguishes itself from an album as it presents a range of Hashbass' production chops. Gritty trap beats with 'Big Man' featuring AGH and polished ones on 'Fariyaad' with Rashmeet Kaur and Raginder, atmospheric hip-hop with 'Pain & Pride' featuring The Siege, a combination of the two on 'Habit' with Spitfire, and pounding ethnic rhythms on one of the strongest cuts on the record 'Sullan' with RAK appear alongside some pop-meets-house with 'Pata Nahi' featuring Pahaad and chill-hop of 'Run2U' with Pho.

As much a product of his collaborators, the quality of the mixtape varies across the different songwriting featured on the release, while Hashbass too feels more at home with the hip-hop cuts. Appreciable in their own rights as Hindi tunes pushing stylistic envelopes relative to what's generally available in the language, 'Pata Nahi' and 'Run2U' do feature moments of the producer overplaying his hands in terms of how many new elements and effects to include to keep things impressive than often needed. Meanwhile, the hip-hop productions feature a more self-assured Hashbass who has moved on from the lo-fi basslines-focused productions that defined his early foray into the genre for more low-end resounding energetic outings.

Out of them, 'Majra' with Saniya MQ is the definite peak of the mixtape, appearing early on the release. Saniya MQ's delivery and brutally honest penmanship balances Urdu phrases about the repercussions of not staying in the limits defined by people around how a girl should act goes head-to-head with Hashbass' production, letting each other go far beyond to some serious intensity.
