Indo-German Hip-Hop Week

The Indo-German Hip-Hop and Urban Art Project, an intercultural network and community project, is descending upon Mumbai between 15-22 April. Featuring an exciting mixture of local and international graffiti artists, b-boys and b-girls, beatboxing and urban sketch artists, the week will be packed full of workshops, music, parties, conferences and live graffiti which will culminate with a b-boy summit and battle/competition called Cypherholic on Sunday 22 April. The project started in 2011with a network tour through five Indian cities which was followed by a seven-week programme that included the painting of the German Embassy walls in Delhi, b-boy competitions in Delhi and Mumbai, a DJ club tour and various workshops and informal painting projects. As part of the year of Germany in India (Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities) the project will continue this April with the 'Hip-Hop Culture - Academy' week alongside workshops, networking summits and conferences. There will also be ongoing painting and creative programmes for kids and young adults taking place at the Indo-German Urban Mela in Cross Maidan Garden.
Organisers hope that through this project and the Indian partners they have developed they will be able to create a Hip-Hop Community and Learning Centre (which will also include an Indian Music Export Office) in Mumbai during the year of Germany and India creating a lasting legacy following on from the motto 'Infinite Opportunities'.
