Jazz Fusion 12-Piece In Between Sessions Shows That Bigger Doesn't Mean Not-Intimate On Debut EP

11 June 2026

Chennai jazz fusion group In Between Sessions consists of 4 string players, 4 guitarists, 2 keyboard players, a drummer and a percussionist who came together between their wider work as session musicians, first for social media videos and now an EP entitled 'In Between Sessions, Vol. 01'. While such a large group usually brings the idea of a larger-than-life sound with blazing solos over sudden groove shifts, and there are some of those, and specially on the opening track, the 5-track record is primarily led by memorable melodies that have an intimate emotive starting point before getting interpolated in jazz adventures.

The timbres too step beyond the genre natives as early videogame-style synths take over to lead the melodic adventures on 'Coastal Daydreams', while 'Bonita' builds a laidback dancefloor groove reminiscent of sweat-soaked-yet-sweet summer evenings with microphrases locking together into a minimal assembly and later percussive interplays grow over dramatic strings.
