A New Home In Hauz Khas: Ziro

30 January 2012

Nestled within the winding lanes of Hauz Khas is a quirky new home for the many coffee lovers and day trippers that find themselves drawn to the magnetic hustle and bustle of this tiny corner in Delhi.

Blink and you could almost miss it. Ziro is new day retreat hidden above Green The Gap. Entry requires a careful clamber up the spiralling narrow yellow stairs which lead you to three cosy floors, each big enough for a couple of tables. As you climb the staircase there is almost a sense of rabbit hole reversal with the narrow gap through the stairs giving you glimpse of what lies up ahead. The nostalgic themed décor makes the space automatically feel homely and inviting with classic LP covers and cassette tapes adorning the walls. You can easily imagine yourself whiling away many afternoons in this space, especially on the roof terrace which acts as a nice little sun trap.

Ziro is a joint project launched by friends Randeep, Anup (Menwhopause) and Vimlendu (who runs the NGO Swechha). They are planning to start a few regular nights including an LP club where vinyl fans will be invited to bring along their most prized LPs for an ultimate geek out over listening sessions:

"I think the whole experience of listening to an LP, including taking it out of its cover, wiping it clean and playing it makes you value the music you are listening to. It’s about the art of listening and we want to bring it back." Anup

Also on the cards is an IP night, known by most as the guitarist from Menwhopause he is also a professional puppeteer (NDTV puppet show) and all round entertainer.

More info as we have it.
