Assam's When Hush Falls Keeps Natural Ambience At Par With Instrumentation On 'Migration'
3 March 2026
Assam's Rajarshi Boro aka When Hush Falls has just released a new EP entitled 'Migration' as it takes inspiration from migratory birds and draws parallels with the inner landscape of human transition.
The 4-track EP offers a more traditional, but tasteful enough to stay appreciable, take on ambient. Its assortment of recordings of birds, critters, wind and water bodies sandwich gentle plucks that linger. However, to Rajarshi, the recorded ambiences are just as important and intentionally layered in the musical assembly as the soft pads and plucks of guitar and santoor.
The latter takes centre stage on the only melody-led composition on the EP, the opener 'Morning Ascent', where the plucks feel like eavesdropping on a musician serenely noodling in an equally tranquil setting. Post that, the notes barely emerge, instead punctuating the rhythms of the natural ambience.
