Dynamite Disco Club Marks Its 50th Release With Compilation Featuring Nida, Stalvart John & More
22 July 2025
Indian multi-faceted platform Dynamite Disco Club just marked the 50th release on its label arm (which it launched 4 years ago and celebrated with a Wild City mix) with the compilation 'Dynamite Cuts Vol. 1'.
The 4-track release features productions by Dynamite Disco Club members Farhan Rehman, Stalvart John and SourFunk as well as New Delhi's Nida, who marks her debut as a producer after building a reputation as a DJ for almost as long as DDC has been a label.
“This release feels like a turning point,” says DDC founder Stalvart John. “We started with edits and Nu Disco, but both the sound and the community have evolved. Right now, we’re focused on House records that are fun, functional, and still say something. We want music that belongs in DJ crates and is representative of the modern-day sound around these genres; that’s where the label is headed.”
As the two most seasoned disco and house purveyors on the release, Farhan Rehman and Stalvart John keep things uncomplicated on their respective tracks. The former counts on brass hooks and string stabs atop more freewheeling and engulfing basslines while Stalvart John is at his simplest yet most efficient on 'Cradle of Life'. He doesn't shy away from utilising obvious risers to enhance the ebb and flow of a parade of African music-influenced vocal samples, guitar lines and horn section exchanges.
The atmosphere is less sunny and more heady and grimey on Nida's 'Where Were You?' which also features the compilation's most visceral basslines – turning the experience a bit darker before Sourfunk's heavily peppered vocal samples try to turn the experience more sultry though remain limited in effect by the density of their presence and treatment.
