Robin Wagle Trio Combines Nepali Folk, Rock, Jazz & Mustang's Culture On 'Maathi Gumba'

Robin Wagle Trio Combines Nepali Folk, Rock, Jazz & Mustang's Culture On 'Maathi Gumba'

9 July 2025

Nepal's guitarist-vocalist Robin Wagle, along with drummer Furba Sherpa and bassist Babin Wagle as Robin Wagle Trio, recently released the music video for 'Maathi Gumba'.

With beds of brass notes supplementing the trio's regular make-up of bass, drums and eccentric guitar tones, the track opts for modern jazz's lexicon with indie-rock's sonic palette before Robin's repeated simple vocal refrains add a flavour of Nepali folk. It is a simple combination that effortlessly fits together and adds freshness to each individual genre brought to the mix.

With its music video, 'Maathi Gumba' is also Robin Wagle's most ambitiously presented release. Filmed in the mountainous terrain of Mustang, the music video carries a vintage charm with its still camera shots and sparse written texts punctuating a story of love and battling for it. All the while, the video does a charming job of depicting the Nepali mountain's culture in all its vibrancy, fitting aesthetically with the song's repeated message of journeying up to catch the sun.
