Angie Joins Kathmandu's New Wave Of Electronica Talent With 'Amaari'
3 June 2025
After making her debut as a DJ in 2021, Angie has swiftly become a staple of Nepal's new wave of dance music talent – gaining spots on platforms like Keep Hush and also contributing with her women-empowering collective Mixmaam.
The Kathmandu-based artist forays into being a producer with the single 'Amaari', released by Pakistan's Alien Panda Jury-headed Cape Monze Records.
Existing in the genre-blurring area between bass and techno, the single starts with a percussion-led, straightforward club-friendly affair with its dynamic, stiff rhythms on classic drum machine sounds before essentially going through 2 phases. The rigid beats are first refreshed with the loose groove of a playful melody, until the melody's limelight is taken over by squelching textures akin to a misbehaving acid house synth.
The single comes accompanied with 2 remixes, with Turkish producer OKKHIO bringing out the hiding breakbeats of the track before Angie's peer Prasidha Yonzon aka YNZN uses his remix to offer one of his most leftfield offerings with rumbling kicks and noisy textures.
