Vinayvvs Explores The Illusions Of Indulgence On 'Temporary Happiness'
4 April 2025
Vinayvvs' 3rd EP 'Temporary Happiness' is an effort to take tried and loved tropes of hip-hop and move it one step in fresher directions.
Over 7 tracks, trap drums are refreshed with reverberating dramatic pianos, distorting echoes of them and lo-fi samples while the rapper hovers close to mumble rap. Though the lyrics come buried in the delivery style and heavy peppering of effects, in them also the commonly-found hip-hop trope of singing about living in excess of indulgences, money and women gets a new context. To do that, the 20-year-old rapper from Mumbai bookends the EP with verses about how such things only give temporary and illusionary happiness – masking misery rather than erasing it.
Though sometimes raw in effort, both sonically and offering more of the aforementioned tropes than the concept it tries to tie its 14 minutes with, 'Temporary Happiness' earns Vinayvvs a stripe for treading new edges of familiar grounds.
