Angad Berar & Debjit Banerjee Merge Hindustani Music & Ambient On 'Existing Quietly'

17 August 2023

New Delhi-based artist Debjit Banerjee and erstwhile Bangalore-based Angad Berar have recently released their collaborative album 'Existing Quietly'.

Aside from the latter's usual fare of aqueous assortments of sustained notes and pads and fragments of morphed guitar lines, the 8-track release throws in elements of Hindustani music into the mix – from disjointed melodic runs on 'Glaciersoftomorrow' to the drones of 'Moon'. The sombre guitar work of 'Moon' also alludes to the soundtrack-like nature of the release, second only to the simpler closer 'I Was Once Here', both of whom punctuate a sonic journey that feels like a blurring barely-graspable vision of distant memories and longings.

The most standout track 'Will You Be There?' on the album is also its longest as both artists move beyond what they've offered before, breaking apart semblances of recognizable melody and timbres into abstract textures that continually shift to more unpredictable grounds.
