Krameri Shares Her Most Cohesive Offering With ‘Feels Like Amnesia’

15 April 2021

Pasting lilting melodies alongside grainy audio snippets of friendly conversations on her EP ‘Feels Like Amnesia’, Damini Chauhan aka Krameri offers a musical juxtaposition of a reflective inner monologue against blurring memories – a mental activity many of us find ourselves subjected to during these lockdowns.

The 6-track EP (with 4 songs and 2 skits) hints at a stylistic shift that works impressively for the Gujarat-born artist, who relies only on the simplest of instrumental arrangements but a creative usage of vocal parts, both spoken and melodious. The opener ‘A Waterfall’ tinkles with our recently-kindled Daft Punk nostalgia (think the track ‘Within’) as it showcases the emotive prowess of autotune.

The pop repetition of the title track – which sees the return of 6091, the producer who used to be part of Krameri during its initial run as a duo – scares a downturn in quality especially as it follows the standout saccharine sadness of the opener. However, ‘Fairweather Friends’ shuns all doubts away with its ode to the tiring aftertaste of hollow support. It sheds a brighter light on the melodic treats that are interspersed all along the EP as punctuating conversational exchanges bring Damini’s vocal flights to the ground.

Sticking to a singular stylistic and lyrical theme over its brief length, ‘Feels Like Amnesia’ shows Krameri at her most cohesive and compositional best. It balances accessible structures on the edge of a boldly bare production, delivering emotional poignancy with the thump of synthetic kicks and brass and a wave of emotive vocal arrangements.
