Watch: Modeselektor Meet Charanjit Singh + Win Goodie Bag
13 January 2014
Last month, Berlin based electronic music duo, Modeselektor visited India as part of the ongoing RBMA world domination plan. As well as destroying crowds in Mumbai and New Delhi, they were interested in meeting like-minded artists whilst on their days off.
When it turned out that they were keen on hanging out with acid house godfather Charanjit Singh - we jumped on the chance to make it happen. Within days we were piled into CS's house in Mumbai with a camera crew waiting to capture whatever happened when these legends from very different backgrounds met.
When Charanjit Singh recorded his 1982 album 'Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat', he could never have imagined his experiment being in the spotlight some 30 years later. This all happened with the help of Edo Burman, who came across the record in a shop in New Delhi, going on to release the very bizarre combination of traditional ragas and relentless house (or as he calls it, disco) beats. More info here.
We've been banging on about him for as long as we've been writing, and have been listening to Modeselektor for even longer. We even invited him to play at the very first edition of Magnetic Fields Festival - and he completely blew us away.
Now here's the fun bit. While in India, we managed to source a Modeselektor/Moderat/50 Weapons/Monkeytown goodie bag from the Berlin boys, to give away to a lucky reader here at Wild City. It includes a whole load of stickers (and we mean a ton), a custom iPhone case and an exclusive copy of their recently released documentary 'We Are Modeselektor'. Trailer here
Simply email your name and contact number to email@example.com with Modeselektor and the city you're from in the subject line. We'll be choosing winners at random early next week.
A little tour diary, including the meeting with CS can be seen below. Some of you may have already seen this, but, we've been away - so that's our excuse.
