Sonar: The Preview

Sónar Festival now in its 18th year, is an international pow wow for electronic music heads, breaking talent and multimedia artists. The event takes place over three days from 14-16 June in Barcelona with music all day (Sónar by Day) and night (Sónar by Night).

This year Sónar builds on the furiously successful showcase events hosted by trailblazers Red Bull Music Academy, BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, London label Hyperdub, Fly Lo’s Brainfeeder, underground American electronic label 100% Silk, Barcelona based imprint Bankrobber and makers of impeccable music production equipment Native Instruments.

As well as amazing partnerships with a selection of global tastemakers the artists billed to play include Philly hip-hop greats The Roots, Manchester Haçienda legends New Order, Amon Tobin, LCD Sound System's James Murphy, internet sensation and remix favourite Lana Del Rey, DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad, James Blake, Modeselektor, Azari & III, Wolf+Lamb affiliate Nicolas Jaar, Flying Lotus, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Mary Anne Hobbs b2b Blawan, Maya Jane Coles, Nina Kraviz, Untold, Om Unit and more. Sónar is not just a festival; it is an immersive experience, a microcosm for hedonists and music lovers, so it’s no surprise that the whole city moves to the beat of the drum with a selection of off-piste and underground parties happening before, during and after the festival. We recommend you check out the Pulse Radio and Fact Magazine four day Pool Party at a local outdoor swimming pool with epic views across the city. Venue ‘Sala Be Cool’ will also host takeovers with London staple club night Warm, Electric Minds, Fina Recorde and Hessle Audio.
