Call For Applications: Border Movement Residency Berlin

18 January 2017

Musicians in South Asia – pay attention. Border Movement’s all expenses paid, bespoke residency program BMR has opened applications for its 2017 edition. The residency is an initiative by Border Movement, Goethe-Institut, Wild City, Ableton and Musicboard Berlin.

Three musicians will be chosen to spend 2 months each in Berlin, where they will have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with local artists, undertake music production master classes, interact with local labels and get the opportunity to play gigs in Berlin. Unlike previous years however, there will only be one application for all 3 residencies – so make sure you apply and spread the word as soon as possible. A bespoke residency, BMR will be tailored to the individual needs of each selected participant, creating a unique program each time.

2016 saw Border Movement send 3 artists ( KʌLʌ, Dinelka and Ghazaleh E) from South Asia to Berlin.

“I met my ‘other’ family in Berlin. My music family. I shared beautiful connections with all these musicians who came from different parts of the world. We’d never met before but we all spoke the same language — music.” Dinelka, Sri Lanka

Deadline’s Friday, 17 February. The application form and full details are available here.

BMR encourages musicians from all genres and backgrounds to apply. Applicants must be between 18 – 40 years old during the residency dates and are required to be residents of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Nepal or the Maldives.

Border Movement will cover all the travel, accommodation, food and production costs for the project. Follow Border Movement for updates and watch a video documenting Ghazaleh E's experience at BMR below.
