Vedant Chauhan Is Obvious With His Soft-Rock Influences On Sophomore Album 'Vinyl'
18 October 2023
Whether it's the album format, adherence to organic instrumentation, the album title, or the songwriting itself, it's clear that Vedant Chauhan continues to be unabashedly old-school on his latest album 'Vinyl'.
Following his previous album 'Love, V' within a year, the 10-track album sees the New Delhi singer-songwriter wear his influences of 60s and 70s soft-rock on his sleeves. The influence of The Beatles is clearly felt in standout yet simple lyrical writing like "Zerah wants you // Zerah needs you // But she wants you to think otherwise" or the way chamber music orchestration supplements the largely guitar-based music on 'Barbie' and 'Alone I Wish To Be'. The writing becomes more and more theatrical and cinematic near the end with melodies that stretch and soar as Vedant showcases more of the 70s influences on the final two tracks, with the final 'Haunted By Your Gaze' resounding its drums and its clean elaborate guitar solos in larger-than-life reverbs to mimic the rock-ballads of the era.
