Noisegates Debut EP 'Sojourner' Is A Confluence Of IDM, Glitch & Noise

It doesn't take long to ascribe the influence of the likes of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher to 'Sojourner', the debut EP by Bombay-based musician and visual artist Vineet Sharma aka Noisegates, after looking at the glitchy textures of its visuals and listening to its onslaught of analog rhythms.

While rough around the edges on a compositional level to draw such parallels beyond style, the 4-track release has a varying compensating element that sets it apart – be it the drone tones on the opener 'Earthbound' or the increasingly filthy (in a good way) acid lines on 'Relapse'. Vineet adds: "I’ve been exploring electronic music for a minute now, this EP is about letting myself wander into emotional spaces that I could only observe from a distance for a long time. Not all of it is pleasant sounding and I guess it comes through on this release, it’s a bit early to tell if those melancholic undertones are part of the Noisegates sound or a momentary fixation."
