Tama Sumo & Lakuti To Make Their India Debut With A 3-City Tour
31 January 2020
Respected German DJ and producer Kerstin Egert aka Tama Sumo and Berlin-based South African selector, label-head and promoter Lerato Khati aka Lakuti will make their India debut with performances in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai between February 7-9.
With a style reaching across house, techno, broken beat, disco, funk and afro beat, Ostgut signee Tama Sumo is notable for her activism against homophobia and sexism, even staging a kiss-in with same sex couples at her Boiler Room appearance in 2011 as a protest. While maintaining residencies at spaces like Panorama Bar and the famed Berlin venue Berghain, Tama Sumo crossed paths with her future wife and professional partner Lakuti. Lakuti, by that point, had dominated nightlife spaces in South Africa, London and Berlin – founding the label Süd Electronic in London and Uzuri Recordings Imprint in Berlin, all the while maintaining her reputation as a selector.
Joining their musical sensibilities together, Tama Sumo and Lakuti draw expansive journeys in their DJ sets, reaching across eras and geographies – exemplified in their Discwoman mix below.
