"Gig Preview: "Air Meets Zero 7 Meets Apparat": Live From The Console, March 2"

1 March 2013

Following a brief flirtation with Goa, Mehboob studio's monthly warehouse party, Live From The Console, is back in the bay with their first gig of the year.

Better known for providing a platform to more organic acts, this month's line up sees the veteran 'taste-makers' climb halfway on to the electro bandwagon. Full of experimental new kids on the block, the evening kicks off early with a screening of Dave Grohl's Sound City (watch trailer). Fast forward 2 hours, Robin Sukroso, Berlin-based 'Live DJ' takes the stage attempting to "close the gap between acoustic and electronic music."

Next in line are MADBOY/ MINK, a relatively fresh duo made up of producer/singer Imaad Shah and singer, Saba Azad. Going by their recent Mumbai debut where they showcased European synthpop-influences combined with trademark electro-swing and funk mash-ups, this one will be worth catching.

And finally, we have a first-time ever collaboration of Sandunes (Sanaya Ardeshir) and Squidworks (a.k.a Varoon Nair, bassist of The Mavyns). In under a year, the former has already established herself as a stellar underground two-step/future garage DJ/producer while plenty have been waiting with baited breath for Nair to find his way back into the heart of this machine. This gig marks his debut as a solo artist.

The duo plan on stripping down studio projects into (almost completely) live versions with Nair on bass, synth and drum pads and Sanaya on keys, synths, vocals, drums and fx. They're describing their sound as more than a few of our favourite things. Namely, "Air meets Zero 7 meets Apparat."

All in all, the night promises to be anything but quotidian. Expect fresh faces, modish sounds, and a first-hand glimpse into LFTC's contemporary avatar. Tell-tale signs of a healthier music culture in 2013, we hope.

Live From The Concole will take place on March 2 at Mumbai's Rowson Reserve Smooth Spaces. You can peep a video teaser of the Sandunes and Squidworks collaboration below:
