Chennai Gears Up For The Third Leg Of The Urban Mela

23 August 2012

The Indo-German Urban Mela is on its third pit stop around India, making Chennai its home between 24 August – 2 September at the YMCA College of Physical Education in Nandanam.

The ten day festival will combine technology, science, culture and entertainment in a range of unique specially made pavilions. Activities and programmes will include guided tours by installation artists Markus Heinsdorff (designer of the pavilions), language classes, graffiti workshops, storytelling sessions and sporting events such as fussket (a combination of football and cricket) and beach volleyball.

There will also be daily light installations and workshops where visitors will be able to experience the square come to life with an aesthetic blend of art and light.

The much anticipated Apparat gig is our highlight of the Urban Mela, further details of the gig are here (not to worry if you can’t make it to Chennai, he will also be playing in Delhi and Mumbai).

The Urban Mela will travel to Delhi and finish its journey around India in Pune next year as part of the ongoing programme “Infinite Opportunities: Germany and India 2011-2012”. A full programme for Chennai can be found here.
