A WORLDWIDE THING: #JANUARY

2 February 2015

Radio Broadcaster and DJ IAMRISHA hosts a bi-monthly show on Delhi-based online station Radio 79. It's called and showcases global underground sounds that range from soul and funk through to tropical bass. Every month she'll bring us a recap of the show's freshest sounds and styles - exclusively for Wild City.

Sounds from Planet Mu this month with the new release from Scottish Producer Claude Speeed with his EP ‘Sun Czar Temple.’ His debut album ‘My Skeleton’ was released earlier this year by LuckyMe, and now signed to Planet Mu he showcases his layered textures of ambient synth and computer noise. It’s dark and beautiful.

DJ, Producer and Journeyman iZem capitalizes the local-global sound artfully. His productions are filled with his cosmopolitan experiences, influences and collaborations and it’s no surprise he’s had many releases across notable labels that include Soundway, ZZK and FarOut. His latest single ‘Water’ captures his global, forward thinking style with the strong, raw vocals of Segun Akano. And I have to add, he has a great acronym for his name iZem = In Ze Early Morning

Remember I’d showcased the Gilles Peterson Brazil Sonzeira project a few months ago? If not, there’s a mini-trailer for it below. But he’s here once again with ‘Sonzeira remixed’ who features a mix of producers that have taken a spin on each of the tracks. First up are the basque brothers Kyodai who have heightened their percussive sounds in ‘Xibaba’ - this can be heard in episode #48 above.

And one album i’m really looking forward to later this month is Romare’s ‘Projection'. And in his words, ‘Projections pays homage to the great American work song tradition, gay rights and 70’s disco, the shuffling swing of jazz, the throaty vocals of Nina Simone, all glued together with a cut-n-paste sensibility.’
