A WORLDWIDE THING: #NOVEMBER

24 December 2014

Radio Broadcaster and DJ IAMRISHA hosts a bi-monthly show on Delhi-based online station Radio 79. It's called and showcases global underground sounds that range from soul and funk through to tropical bass. Every month she'll bring us a recap of the show's freshest sounds and styles - exclusively for Wild City.

I rarely play Jamaican dancehall on this show but when I heard the new Gappy Ranks track remixed by Murlo I couldn't resist making it the opener for episode 44. It's big, bold, badass and makes you wanna wind. Gappy Ranks collaborated with Tom Chasteen of Dub Club for 'Gappy Ranks Meets Dub Club' out on Stones Throw.

Also Paul White's new release on R&S Records 'Running on a rainy day' was a treat with it's dreamlike, dubby, left-field vibe, described by Clash Magazine as his finest album to date. And Zara McFarlane has had a fantastic 2014 picking up a MOBO Award and considered 'outstanding' on Jools Holland's Later. Her cover of Nina Simone's adulterous track 'Plain Gold Ring' has been stripped down to complete rawness. It's a beauty.

We've got kaleidoscopic shapes in the form of 'Real time' from astro-travelling duo Silk Rhodes and Innovative Leisure's Tropics who draws inspiration from experimental pop artists like Arthur Russell to create his haunting landscape.

And I received one of my favourite collections, Brownswood Bubblers edition 11 that showcases hidden gems worldwide. I'm gonna leave you with a couple videos from Moonchild and Billie Black whose sounds featured on episode 45. It's a melting affair.
