Kohra & Monophonik Release Collaborative EP 'Jugalbandi'

India's dance music cornerstone Madhav Shorey aka Kohra and its mercurially rising proponent Shatrunjai Dewan aka Monophonik have come together to release the collaborative EP 'Jugalbandi' via UK-based label space·lab.

Composed at Kohra's Goa studios during the monsoon of 2023, the 4-track doesn't just refer to the rain-washed landscapes of the state and its elements through track titles but also in the styles it takes inspiration from. Genres associated with the area show up as abstract reverberating motifs over four-on-the-floor rhythms that try to break beyond the tempi of techno on 'Rava Fry' and 'Siolim Hues' while the encapsulating 'Innayat' and 'Jugalbandi' build and dismantle the breakbeat. With the combined force of Kohra's genre-bending approach and Monophonik's flair for modular synths, the motifs constantly dissociate to reach towards disconcerting levels of psychedelia and return back to semblance – best represented through the journey that is 'Rava Fry'.
