pruthvi Offers An Ode To A Joyous Age With 'twentytwo'

25 April 2024

An optimist soundtrack about an age to look forward to or a sweet remembrance of yesteryears, the chorus of Pruthvi Dhawale's (who goes by only her first name as an artist) 'twentytwo' has a reverie that seems to ramp up and up like the momentum of carefreely spinning out of joy.

The pop-rock single by the Mumbai singer-songwriter with local contemporary sudan on production duties has a lo-fi edge to it that uplifts it from the cliches of the genre. The most stellar element of the work remains Pruthvi's detailed penmanship as she captures the age's optimism, emotional conflicts, indecisiveness and figuring oneself out with lyrics like: "And my friend, she said I should dye my hair // But I’m a bit confused between purple and red // And there was a time that I shaved my head // And my mom thought I needed help".
