5 Minutes With: SICKFLIP

2 September 2014

Sarvesh Shrivastava has been on our radar since his debut release ‘Outburst’ dropped in 2012 under the avatar SICKFLIP. The young producer struck the industry head on with his boundless talent and technical know-how, so it came as no surprise that his latest venture – ‘The Ladakh Project’, was pretty big - sonically, visually and conceptually. The 45 minute long audio visual feast combines the surreal landscape and vibrant imagery of the Northern Kashmiri district of Ladakh, with his own brand of contemporary, bass heavy and atmospheric electronica.

SICKFLIP’s visuals were created in partnership with The Outbox Project who joined the artist on his 15 day pilgrimage to the sandy ochre mountains and glacial rivers of Ladakh. The Outbox Project is a collaborative platform of creative freelancers and artistic minds who work together to create visual content for clients. Co-founders of The Outbox Project – Aneesh Prasad and Sabit Tibekar accompanied Shrivastava on his trip to the region.

The bass heavy musician has a real love for Ladakh – the short music video for Zeepata (below) gives listeners an idea of what to expect from the EP which is riddled with traditional Ladakhi and monastic instrumentation, particularly on tracks like ‘Chanshen’and ‘Pangong Waves’.

Sarvesh tells us a little more about the ideas that drove him to create The Ladakh Project:

“Consumed by the thought of capturing the surreal beauty of Ladakh and amalgamating it with sublime sounds, the idea of this journey was born with the need to transfigure this experience into music and visuals. We had heaps of firsts in our journey, like writing exclusive original audio content in Ladakh and capturing contrasting sounds of the land - from monastic chantingto flowing rivers.”
