ZYkR is an indie electronic collective led by Aseem Suri, comprising fellow Berklee College of Music alumni Pedro Zappa and Donnie Hogue. For Aseem, having grown up in India with his roots in rock music, and being an immigrant working in electronic production in America for over 7 years, ZYkR is the coming together of these different realities. With an intention to write songs reflecting the issues of our times, ZYkR’s music lives somewhere between the electronica of Massive Attack and the experimentation of Velvet Underground; mixing equal parts glitch and ambient with riff-driven, lyric-heavy rock. The live act brings this spirit of experimentation to the stage, using left-field performance techniques, triggers, samplers and custom controllers to create a show that has the energy of a rock concert while maintaining a unique sonic palette - to create an experience that is as visual as it is aural. ZYkR borrows from the culture of musique concrete, infusing performances with field recordings, speech samples, poetry and projections.
