Facebook Users Have Shared Over 5 Billon Songs In 4 Months
3 February 2012
It's been just over 4 months since Facebook integrated its open graph that allowed for song sharing and streaming via services like Spotify, MOG, Rhapsody and others. Within that extremely short space of time, users of the social media giant have apparently shared a whopping 5 billion songs.
Facebook's Dan Rose recently announced that figure during a keynote appearance at MIDEM whilst talking about the impact Facebook is having on music (and generally everything else).
“If you’re an artist and your content is not already on one of these services, make it available. There’s a new currency that’s emerging in the music industry, which is how many people have shared a given song or a given artist on Facebook. This currency is going to become a new way that people talk about whether music is blowing up.”
India is Facebook's second largest user base in the world with around 43 million users.
