Inspired By Goa Sunsplash, DJazz Blurs Dub, Breakbeats And Techno On New EP
15 April 2026
After travelling to India's most prominent reggae and dub festival, Goa Sunsplash, Mumbai's Aditya Malve aka DJazz was inspired to make the EP 'Her Mom's a Gypsy', which he has just released.
The 3-track release opens with vocal calls and guitar chords receiving the dub treatment as they echo across on 'Lips Don't Lie', but underpinned with a propelling four-to-the-pulse and short bass hook more rooted in techno than the former genre's laidback feel. In contrast, the follow-up 'Black Cat Bizzness' keeps things relaxed even as it chooses Malve's usual fare of breakbeats. The paciest number, 'Shaila's Myth' descends more deeply and firmly into the dubstep category briefly before recontextualising its low pressure basslines with heavy kicks and acid house squelches.
We wouldn't be so fixated on classification usually, but in case of DJazz's 'Her Mom's a Gypsy', choosing the tools of one style and using them to reach the effect of a contrasting another is what keeps it a fresh offering in every style it touches.
