Stain Returns To The Smoky Space Between Dub & Club On 'Under The Influence'

24 October 2025

New Delhi's Sourodeep Guha aka Stain recently put out a new EP entitled 'Under The Influence', returning with his club-friendly soundsystem culture-influenced musicality.

But unlike many previous times where his work leans towards light-hearted expressions and kicking back with it, the new 4-track release dwells a lot on tense and foreboding environments – save for the opening title track that picks sounds and samples, which could just as well be from the streets of Delhi, and finds the rhythm in them that are shared by dub's deep basslines.

The EP proceeds to hark back to the dubstep that was shaking walls of East London before it became an EDM-adjacent worldwide taste, specially with the quick steps of 'Take Control' underlying a hip-hop palette and similarly the 808 claps that propel the sway of 'Machine Will Kill You'. However, 'Mudda Inc' best captures the dark new flavour that Stains introduces with his EP as its core-shaking basslines pair with cumbia-akin intricate rhythms and lead the way while echoing samples make things headier – conforming the most to the genre but with a honed adherence to its best bits.
