VRIDIAN Imagines Goa's Psychedelia With A Techno Lens On 'Days Of Paradiso'

2 April 2025

On his first EP of original music in almost 3 years, entitled 'Days Of Paradiso', New Delhi's Vir RC aka VRIDIAN creates a love letter to his first love within the umbrella of electronic music: Goa trance and its psychedelic dance culture in the 90s. However, instead of homaging it by emulating it, VRIDIAN approaches his memories with a techno lens on the 3-track release.

Named after Paradiso, the bygone venue of Goa that supported the flourishing of trance in the region, 'Days Of Paradiso' keeps a hint of the genre, imitating its spiritual practices-inspired chants with pads and synth tones on the title track while 'Monkey Mallets' and 'Circus Frenzy' feature the whirring arpeggiated squelches reminiscent of the style. The majority of the soundscape though is more akin to darker shades of techno as the guttural kicks rattle alongside morphing percussion over electrifying raw bass textures.

The EP becomes VRIDIAN's most adventurous addition to his discography, as he breaks his patterns and moves away from the reverberating washes of melodic techno for more in-your-face syncopated percussion, tamed chaos of instruments fizzling at the edge of noise and more succinct structures.
