SoundCloud To Enforce Streaming Limits

19 June 2015

German audio distribution and streaming giant SoundCloud has just announced that it will be enforcing streaming limits on outside websites and third party applications, starting July 1.

This means that any music not streamed directly off the company’s website will be subject to a limit of 15,000 plays over a period of 24 hours.

The new policy has been enforced so that SoundCloud can make the most of its recently introduced advertisements, which will not play if the content is streamed on other websites and apps. The company announced the news as a strategy to deal "with an increasing number of applications that abuse creator content."

While 15000 plays may seem like a significantly large number at first, popular and hyped new tracks often receive much more traffic than this when they are first released, and many popular sites could suffer.
