Heads Up: The Supersonics Set To Release New Album. Watch New Video

13 August 2014

Kolkata based veteran rock n’ roll outfit - The Supersonics, are set to release their highly awaited album, titled ‘Heads Up’ this coming week. The sophomore album comes after their lauded debut LP – ‘Maby Baking’ which dropped five years ago, amassing positive reviews from the industry at large. The video for their track ‘Into The Dark’ has been released today, exclusively on redbull.in via #RedBullPremieres, along with a free download.

Band members include Ananda Sen (vocals, guitars), Rohan Ganguli (guitar, backing vocals), Avinash Chorida (drums) and Nitin Mani (bass). Like the previous LP, ‘Heads Up’ is produced by illustrious sound engineer Miti Adhikari, fondly refered to by the band as their “fifth member”. Adhikari has, in the past, collaborated with the likes of Radiohead, Nirvana and most recently, James Blake.

‘Into The Dark’s lyrical themes are pensive and perhaps a bit on the dark side, though their music is upbeat and very catchy. The accompanying performance video was shot in their home town of Kolkata, in old theatres, libraries and garages.

The band had this to say about teaming up with Red Bull and the new video:

“After our disastrous experience with a label during our first album, Red Bull came like a breath of fresh air and changed our outlook of the Indian music scene. Their 'no questions asked' support makes them a true patron of the arts. Meanwhile, the video was great fun to shoot. We're not very camera friendly, so it was quite a task to get the band to relax in front of the camera.”

It looks like we have a lot to look forward to from The Supersonics – apart from the upcoming LP; the’ve launched their own website, designed by Spade, who also created their quirky album art. We have a feeling that devoted fans of the imprint will be waiting, faces pinned to their computer screens, for ‘Heads Up’ to drop.

You can watch the new video for ‘Into The Dark’ here, and follow the band on Facebook for updates.
