Red Bull Music Academy Brings Benjamin Damage To India - With A Difference

13 May 2014

Red Bull Music Academy is back in India after some truly memorable performances by Modeselektor in December last year. Benjamin Damage; RBMA alumni and Welsh techno master - will be touring from 21 - 25 May, playing for heads in Kolkata, Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad.

What may have came as a surprise to many, was that there was no Delhi or Mumbai dates announced for this tour. We thought we’d address the elephant in the room and tell you a little more about Red Bull Music Academy and their music philosophies.

RBMA was created to open the world of music production to anyone, in any corner of the world. It’s safe to say that Delhi and Bombay are relatively well adjusted when it comes to music and its promotion; it’s rare that a visiting artist will give these two main hubs a miss.

But the point of RBMA isn’t to cater to pre existing crowds – their idea of a good show is one where they can spread their sounds to wider audiences in a number of locations - showing different breeds of musicians and producers that music can be a real career.

By broadening their horizon, RBMA hopes that more people from music circuits nationwide will understand more about the academy and what it does. The aim, or so we hope, is that musicians and producers in different cities send in applications to the academy and come one step closer to realising their dreams of making music for global audiences.

We’re not too worried about the fact that Damage isn’t visiting us at the capital – RBMA’s slowly paving a route for itself in the country and we’re more than okay with that. What’s exciting is that acts like Modeselektor and now Benjamin Damage will have both performed in India within a span of a year, which can only mean that we’ll have a lot more to look forward to in the future.
