An In-Depth Look Into Dekmantel Amsterdam

25 May 2017

Amsterdam-based label and collective Dekmantel was founded six years ago by a group of buddies in their early 20s. Initially established in 2007 as a small club night (with a capacity of 150 people), it has now grown to become one of the most important and illustrious events and labels in the world.

Dekmantel Festival had its first edition in 2013. Since then the Amsterdam label has thrown events in Tokyo, Melbourne, London and various cities across Europe, as well as another edition in Sao Paolo, and Selectors Festival off the Croatian coast.

Led by Thomas Martojo and Casper Tielrooij, the festival has time and time again curated line-ups that feature DJs with a keen ear for the obscure and underappreciated, as well game-changers from across eras; both legends and modern virtuosos.

Taking place between 2-6 August, the fifth edition of the festival features a mouth-watering line-up that includes: Helena Hauff, Sun Ra Arkestra, Arca, Floating Points (live and DJ set), Nina Kraviz, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Lena Wilikens, Forest Swords, Antal & Hunee, Jeff Mills & Tony Allen, British Murder Boys, Omar S, Masters At Work and many many more.

This year's festival will also run for a day longer than the 2016 edition - starting on Wednesday rather than Thursday, featuring an opeing concert with Steve Reich & Slagwerk Den Haag, parties across some of Amsterdam's best venues and the 2nd edition of Dekmantel Conference.
