UKato Breaks Into Garage, Jungle & IDM On New EP 'Pay Attention'
11 March 2026
Utkarsh Singh aka UKato has had a noticeable rise across India's dancefloors in the post-COVID world. The New Delhi producer-DJ has found a firm identity with the breakneck speeds within the blanket genre of bass music with a grasp of pairing weighty low-end with flighty rhythms.
The latest EP 'Pay Attention', his first since 2021's 'Aether' which released on formidable drum & bass label RAM Records, solidifies that identity. With 3 new originals and 3 remixes, the EP begins with the title track offering an accessible assembly of garage rhythms, spoken word samples to grab attention and basslines that could be too big for small club rooms. Post that, the EP begins to grow increasingly maximalist, putting dramatic sonic collages under the chopped up breakbeats of jungle on 'Singularity'. Later, even that semblance of a recognisable groove blows apart on 'Apsis'. Through the drama, UKato doesn't loose the pulse that a dancer could connect to.
While Subp Yao and Noizbleed tame the low-end of 'Pay Attention', it is JAYSN's remix of 'Singularity' which stands out as it whittles down the drums and turns the background collage into a screeching atonal noise that somehow creates the EP's most graspable hook.
