A Standout Melody Marks Meewakching’s New Single ‘Fonder’

25 November 2025

Meewakching, one of Manipur's present-day leading indie rock groups, just released their new single 'Fonder' to follow up their sophomore album 'BILDUNGSROMAN'.

The 5-piece group tightens as songwriters as they arrive at a memorable melody as wistfully romantic as the song's lyrical themes. The climbing phrase forms the entire DNA of the composition, informing everything from the interlocking shimmering guitar hooks to the gentle vocal delivery. The melodic height it reaches is where the band delivers its chorus, finding within it the energetic space to belt out and assert their loud identities as a rock band.

The band cites the line “When thou hast done, thou hast not done” from a work by English poet John Donne to inspire the song about trying to hold on while learning to let go, as it echoes across the lyrics: "When I leave you, I don’t leave you // If it’s over, it ain’t over.” The band also mentions how they'll be slowing down after the release of 'Fonder' as it marks over 30 songs released by them independently.

Irrespective of that, the tune does feel like it brings together Meewakching's journey so far – presenting in its simplicity and polish a rock band that is no longer searching for a sound, but has confidently found it.
