On ‘sun & dreams’, roshnee Blooms Through A Cohesive, Minimalist Folk Palette

On paper, what 'sun & dreams', the debut single by Mumbai-based artist Ritik Mehta aka roshnee (who is also part of the folk collective Inayat), offers is found ever so often: acoustic guitars trilling to fuse with sitar hooks amidst similarly organic instrumentations. However, the lead single from his upcoming 9-track album 'roshnee and the roots' comes with a stark succinctness.
Just as a few airy words of the songwriting give a picturesque and sensory expression of blossoming, every element, however familiar, contributes its perfect little bit to create an atmospheric lilting collage that singularly reflects the song's message in every aspect. If roshnee is claiming to bloom in the song gently, then that is exactly what every little hook and harmony does on the track. It's an outing that is promisingly cohesive, especially in light of it being a debut effort.
