Kinari Releases Her Most Ambitious Track & Music Video With 'Animal'

A little more than an year after her debut album 'Kattar Kinnar', New Delhi's Kinari has put out her latest single 'Animal' with a cinematic music video.

Over a self-produced energetic assortment of dhol beats and samples from Kendrick Lamar's 'Backseat Freestyle' and Kanye West's 'Black Skinhead', the rapper details and responds to the male-dominated hip-hop scene of Delhi and the chatter the 25-year-old has faced so far. Over its 6 minutes runtime, 'Animal' takes a dig at everything from rappers chest-thumping in cyphers but not matching up to their claims outside them, the duty of a rapper to speak truth to power, hypermasculinity, hypernationalism and even casteism – all while decorating the writing with an assertive celebration of her transgender identity and the energy of classic ad-libbing style.
