Dizlaw Combines Guitar Indie-Pop With Hindi Lyricism On 5-Track EP 'Dilbar'

21 March 2025

The kind of chiming guitar hooks and backbeat-adjacent rhythms that feature on 'Dilbar' by Mumbai-based artist Dishant Kamble aka Dizlaw are usually commonplace in English indie music. Though their combination with Hindi lyricism around heartbreak, healing and growing from it isn't groundbreakingly fresh, Dizlaw's occasional courage of going towards detuned guitar lines and dramatic rhythm changes set the 5-track release apart.

The EP is at its best when Dizlaw leans on his talent for writing catchy singalong choruses, as heard on the opener 'Jaani' or 'Khayaal' The other tracks, while consistent in style, feel more like extensions of the more lacklustre parts of these highlights—though still managing to reflect Dizlaw arriving at a style he feels more at home with.
