Gunda's 'Ruswai' Brings Together Seedhe Maut's Encore ABJ & The Doors

'Ruswai', the latest single by Tanmay Saxena aka Gunda, borrows the psychedelic organ part of the popular 60s' song 'Light My Fire' by The Doors, pairs it with Urdu lyricism and rap about being jilted by a lover and makes it work.

While the track has found a healthy number of listeners already having been released via the pillaring Indian hip-hop label Azadi Records and featuring Encore ABJ from the popular duo Seedhe Maut, it features an efficient simplicity that elevates it from most other recent releases. The song confidently sticks to Gunda's catchy refrain. Its shades of Urdu allow Encore ABJ to dynamically carry the lyricism from poetic to his straightforward style and back. The pair exhibits enough conviction to keep the composition to the delivery and writing of the 2 sections and nothing more, while the unique sound and Latin rhythm of The Doors' inspiration provides that uniqueness which keeps the track from being passé.
