Pluto Monkey Offers Subdued Downtempo With 6-Track EP 'Indentity Monkey'

22 October 2024

New Delhi producer Antariksh Mohapatra aka Pluto Monkey has just put out his latest EP 'Identity Monkey'.

The 6-track EP continues to expand upon Antariksh's warm and rhythmic fusion of live instruments jamming over the foundation of electronic beats and samples. This mix of jazz-inspired instrumental tinkling and low-end rich downtempo results in tracks that are emotive yet understated, creating a sense of anticipation often for something more, another layer to finally push things to a more interesting gear. The 2 tracks that manage to elevate themselves from this problem are the STREETON-featuring 'Visions Of New Fusion' with its heavy rhythmic interplay and syncopation keeping the listener's attention pulled, and especially 'Spirit Children'.

The shortest track on the EP, 'Spirit Children' assembles a collage of ethnic wind and pitched percussion samples alongside Pluto's own piano playing (which he admittedly has been shy in sharing until now), to achieve the perfect blend of subconscious mood colouring and interesting sound palette that the rest of the EP is vying for.
